We look before we price
No quote goes out without someone having been on the roof. Pricing a flat roof from a photograph or a phone description helps nobody — it just means the figure changes once work starts.
Three generations of roofing in the same corner of Surrey. We are based in Godalming, we work across Guildford every week, and our reputation here is the only advertising that has ever really mattered to us.
GK Foster & Son Roofing was established in 1969. A great deal has changed in roofing since then — rubber membranes and fibreglass systems did not exist, insulation requirements were a fraction of what building regulations now demand, and health and safety on a roof was largely a matter of being careful.
What has not changed is how we work. We still survey a roof before we price it. We still explain what we have found in plain language rather than trade jargon. And we still send the same people back to finish a job that they started, because that is how standards stay consistent.
Working from Godalming puts us a short drive from Guildford, and flat roofing across the town makes up a large share of what we do — extensions and garages on the post-war estates, parapet roofs on the Victorian terraces, dormers on the sixties and seventies housing, and commercial coverings out at Slyfield.

If a repair will genuinely see you right for years, we will say so rather than sell you a replacement. If a roof is beyond patching, we will say that too, and explain why.
Falls, upstands, outlets, flashings and lead work. This is where flat roofs fail, and it is where our time goes. The middle of the sheet looks after itself.
The people who survey your roof are the people who work on it. Nothing is handed off to a subcontractor you have never spoken to.
Old coverings, nails and packaging go with us. Gardens, drives and gutters are cleared before we finish for the day, not just at the end of the job.
Flat roofing systems and building regulations both move on. Our roofers keep their training up to date so what we install today meets what is required today.
We are happy to take a look and tell you honestly what we find — no charge and no pressure.
Felt, rubber and fibreglass flat roofs we have installed, stripped back and repaired — including the lead work, edge trims and drainage details that decide how long a flat roof actually lasts.
We would rather point you at what people have actually written than reprint selected quotes here. Have a read, then judge for yourself.
